If you’re looking for a truly immersive and captivating bushcraft and survival adventure, this is it. Spend 48 hours deep in the woods with friends or family, reconnecting with nature, getting “back to basics,” and learning a wide range of practical outdoor skills.
If any of this feels outside your comfort zone—don’t worry. Our experienced instructors will guide you safely, confidently, and supportively through every activity.
Your adventure begins with constructing your own shelter. You’ll learn two methods:
Debris shelter using natural woodland materials
Tarp shelter for lightweight, weatherproof cover
Depending on the conditions and your preference, you’ll choose which one to sleep in for the night. Your shelter becomes your base camp for the rest of your activities.
Safe and effective use of cutting tools is one of the most important bushcraft abilities. You’ll learn to craft your own:
Tent pegs
Mallet
Feather sticks
Pot hanger
Skills covered include knife and saw safety, batoning, stopper cuts, blade-passing etiquette, and a variety of controlled cutting techniques.
Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks.
Fresh water, tea, and coffee are available throughout the day.
Locating and purifying water is essential in any survival situation. You’ll learn:
How to identify water sources
How to build a bushcraft filter using woodland materials
How to boil and purify water to make it safe to drink
Using your handmade pot hanger and fire skills, you’ll boil your filtered water over your own campfire.
Learn multiple fire-lighting techniques, including:
Using ferro rods
Igniting both natural and man-made tinders
Building a tinder bundle and blowing it to flame
Preparing kindling and constructing a small fire lay
Once taught, you’ll put everything into practice to build and maintain your own fire.
For your evening meal, instructors will demonstrate how to:
Make bannock bread
Prepare and cook one wild game species (pigeon, partridge, or rabbit – seasonal availability)
After dinner, relax by the fire and enjoy the atmosphere of the woods at night.
After breakfast, you’ll explore more traditional and primitive fire-starting methods, including:
Identifying and using fatwood
Making char cloth
Igniting with traditional flint and steel
Friction fire (Bow Drill) – rubbing wood together to create fire like our ancestors
You’ll learn the techniques—and then it’s your turn to try.
Take a guided walk through the woodland to learn about:
Tree and plant identification
Seasonal wild edibles
Selecting ingredients to make your own “bush teas”
Please bring your own lunch, snacks, and drinks.
Fresh water, tea, and coffee are available throughout the day.
Learn to navigate without a compass by using nature and simple tools. Techniques include:
Shadow stick method
Improvised needle compass
Using an analogue wristwatch for direction
In any expedition, knowing how to call for help is essential. You’ll learn how to use the natural environment and the kit you carry to create effective rescue signals when modern communication tools aren’t available.
Your final activity is to construct a tripod smoke-signal fire, combining all your newly learned skills—tool work, fire-building, and choosing suitable natural materials.
If all goes well, your signal will rise… and your rescue will be on its way.
Good luck!
