This course is an Institute for Outdoor Learning Accredited Continual Professional Development Course and is designed for people who use/or wish to use bushcraft as an aide to delivering their own sessions at their own venues.

 

The training delivered on this course is designed to enable you to go for the IOL Bushcraft Competency Certificate should you wish. The training does however surpass the basic requirements of the certificate. Run over 3 days, you will be taught by some of the most knowledgeable instructors in the industry from Woodland Ways Bushcraft. The instructional team have been approved by the Institute for Outdoor Learning for their high standards of quality and safety.

 

The course consists of the following:

An assessed award covering bushcraft skills and knowledge suitable for teachers or instructors to deliver progressive bushcraft learning experiences in their setting.

  • Covers eight core bushcraft subjects - edged tools - knives & saws, fire, bow drill, water, debris shelters & bedding, tree identification & uses, natural navigation, cordage.
  • Designed for the outdoor learning workforce including FE/HE students, apprentices, instructors, teachers, leaders, etc.
  • Suitable for a wide range of people working or volunteering in formal or non-formal settings such as early years, schools, colleges, outdoor centres, education centres, wildlife trusts, national parks, youth and voluntary organisations, etc.
  • Consists of a high-quality training course, consolidated experience, assessment of bushcraft competence and certification by IOL Awards Centre.

  

Training Courses

Consolidation Period and Logbook

  • Assessment for the Bushcraft Competency Certificate requires a completed Bushcraft Competency Logbook demonstrating 120 quality hours of consolidated bushcraft experience.
  • Supporting evidence should include a mix of guided learning, self-learning, reflective practice, teaching, mentoring, etc.

IOL encourages candidates to submit a digital logbook of their required experience. Download in Word or PDF format and when completed, email to Fiona at IOL, no less than 10 days prior to your assessment, who will notify your Assessor. 

 

WHEN:

The course will be run between Wednesday 19th and Friday 21st November 2025.

Course Duration: 3 Days -

Day 1 09:00-19:00 - Day 2 09:00-18:00 - Day 3 09:00-15:00

This course will be run at a private woodland in the heart of Shropshire, on the edge of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty only 15 mins West of Bridgnorth.

£385 - IOL members - £415 - non members.

IOL standard course costs are £300 + (VAT £360) per person for members or £325 + (VAT £390) for non-members, which covers just the instructional package. £25 added for Spirited Adventure woodland logistics, additional Add-ons are provided by Spirited Adventure.

 

 

TARP KIT HIRE - up to 2 nights.

We have tarps and sleeping kit for you to hire for a truly immersive woodland experience. Our Bushcraft Instructors with show you how to set up your tarp ready to sleep under the stars.

£25 per person - additional.

 

 

'BELL TENTS & CAMP BEDS' - up to 2 nights - possible sharing.

Perhaps you may be looking for a little extra style and comfort while staying in the woods! Look no further and select our Bell Tents package. Sleeps up to 5 persons. Perfect for small groups. 

£50 per person - additional. - for both nights - possibly sharing.
